Can you believe that November is right around the corner?? Time sure does go by fast.
This is a very exciting week for the students....The Halloween Howler and an opportunity for the students to become ghosts and goblins. There will be adult help approximately a half an hour before lunch in order for students to get assistance with their costumes. Just a friendly reminder that costumes cannot have scary faces, or masks and no items that can be portrayed as a weapon. We continue to work on family, groups we belong to and our community during our social studies block. The community group cut out person is due on Monday. In math, students have been practicing learning how to make and read a variety of number lines. Ask your child to show you what one looks like and what information can be found on one. We had an exciting day on Wednesday-all students participated in a school wide writing initiative. Did your child tell you about the boxes worn on the teachers heads?? This was done to generate excitement around the writing prompt used: A box arrives at your door-you are to use your imagination to invent a pet. Some great writing happened-invented pets included:
We look forward to a busy and exciting week. This week we have started our work in numeracy. We co-constructed number lines and discussed the characteristics of a number line. We will soon be starting fun math centres focusing on counting, number recognition, skip counting, bigger than, smaller than, hundreds charts, and 10 frames.
In language arts Ms. Brown came and did an exciting lesson on how to write a story using pictures and words. Students enjoyed trying something new and we will continue to develop our stories. Note: Pictures came home this week along with a note and a cut out person. Please help your child decorate their cut out person in whatever group they belong to such as scouts, cubs, brownies, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, soccer, etc. This is due no later than October 30. Thank you for your support:)
The month of September has gone by so fast!
Dolch Sight words have now been sent home-please practice daily. Welcome to our blog, stay tuned... During science, we have been experimenting with colour. Students know about shade, and how to darken or lighten a colour. Students should be able to tell you the 3 primary and secondary colours and which 2 colours to mix together to get the secondary colours. Currently we are working on a giant colour wheel made from found objects from home.
In math, students have been participating in math centres where they are able to demonstrate and label different types of patterns. In language arts students are practicing telling each other their stories based on photo. Some are sharing many interesting details! Reading update: I am almost finished testing students and am hoping to get practice sight words sent home next week, and then home reading to follow. Thanks to all parents who came for parent teacher interviews. If you were unable to come, I would like to touch base with you. We can connect via phone if that is most convenient. Terry Fox Run Thursday September 28 at approximately 9 am. Come and join us if you would like. As always, thanks for all of your support! |
